The challenge

One person and one grinding machine make up Stumps ‘R’ Us, which works in and around St. Thomas, Ontario. For a business like this, work is won on the phone, so the website had to push visitors toward calling rather than filling in long forms.

Homeowners with fenced yards may assume a stump grinder cannot reach their stump. The site needed to deal with that doubt early, show that booking is easy, and make the free estimate impossible to miss.

Our approach

We opened with what the machine can actually do. It grinds big stumps down below the surface, yet it is slim enough to pass through a normal backyard gate, which answers the main concern before it is raised.

The brand mark, outlined in gold with a western feel, sits over a photo of the grinder spraying wood chips. A brown banner sums up the business as dependable, fairly priced, professional and insured.

To show that hiring is simple, the homepage includes a video of tree removal work, a badge for round-the-clock emergency callouts, and icons showing that Visa, Mastercard, cheque and cash are all accepted. Each section closes with a prompt to call, and the call buttons display the full phone number, so a visitor on a phone can start the conversation with one tap.

The results

Homeowners can check that the grinder will fit their yard, see how they can pay and reach the operator with one tap. The free estimate offer is repeated in several forms down the homepage, and the menu leads to a gallery, a blog and a contact page. Calling is always the obvious next step.
