The challenge

Children in Limbo Task Force's members are volunteer professionals who research and speak up about children who never reach a stable, permanent placement. They bring a long record of clinical work, and they wanted that expertise to be taken seriously and easy to reach.

Its readers range from caseworkers and social workers to adoptive families. They needed to understand the core issue quickly, read long documents comfortably, including on a phone, and find the group's books and resources without getting lost.

Our approach

The homepage follows a deliberate sequence. An important notice appears first, then a plain explanation of what limbo means for a child, then a featured article, and then the group's published books, each shown with its cover and the story of how it came about. Deeper pages cover the group's history, its members and its resources. The opening image, a child's shadow cast on a wall, sets the tone.

The design places one white reading column on a bright sky blue background, with classic serif headings suited to professional writing. The book covers supply most of the color.

The notice opens in a PDF window built into the page, and a button saves a copy. Each book can be ordered through its link. Articles have share buttons for members. On phones the viewer is swapped for a simple link to the file and a download button, and text keeps short lines with generous spacing.

The results

Children in Limbo Task Force's volunteers now keep their own publishing home up to date, with a blog, an archive of notices, a list of members and a library of resources. The volunteers can keep adding writing, and the homepage layout already has a place for it. Caseworkers and families can read the group's work comfortably on a desktop or a phone.
